The Duke Emergency Department (ED) is a designated Level 1 Emergency Department and Trauma Center. Staffed and equipped to provide initial stabilization and emergency care to adult and pediatric patients with life-threatening injuries and/or illnesses, the Duke ED includes:

• A dedicated Pediatric Unit
• Psychiatric Unit
• Trauma Unit
• Clinical Evaluation Unit
• A four-bay Triage area.

With the most sophisticated and innovative technology available, Duke Emergency Services delivers a full range of state-of-the-art emergency care to more than 75,000 patients each year, including:

• Emergency management
• Emergency medicine and trauma center
• Preventive education services
• Life Flight
