GEMS
Duke Raleigh Hospital, part of the Duke University Health System since 1998, is proud to offer a specialized training program geared toward new nurse graduates (Level - Clinical Nurse I):
Graduates: Engaged, Mastering, Succeeding (GEMS)
This information-packed, hands-on internship program for the new nurse is paid and preceptor guided. The 8-12 week program features rotations and includes:
- Preceptor Orientation
- Rotation to each of the M/S Units (Medical/Oncology; Orthopaedic; General Surgical); a 22-bed Progressive Care Unit, 9-bed Neuro Step Down Unit
- Additional cross training within a 15-bed multipurpose ICU
- Occasionally the Emergency Department may be included in the rotation
GEMS participants will enjoy:
- Educational sessions with guest speakers
- The chance to give and receive support from fellow new nurses enrolled in the GEMS program
- A shift differential if working evenings, nights or weekends
Upon program completion, the new graduate will move into a "home" unit for more unit-specific orientation.
Requirements
To qualify for participation in the GEMS program, nurses must be:
- A new graduate RN
- Licensed in the state of North Carolina prior to orientation
Placement is based on current openings as well as area of interest.
