Duke Life Flight began operating its first helicopter in February of 1985 and added one critical care ground transport ambulance in March of 1988. Thirty-plus years later, Duke Life Flight is a thriving, CAMTS accredited transport team including:
- Two state-of-the-art EC 145 helicopters operational 24/7 in Durham and Smithfield, NC
- Seven Kenworth critical care ambulances located in Durham and Smithfield, NC
- Four Chevy type III ambulances for utilized for BLS and ALS missions; based out of Durham, NC
Highly trained transport teams are comprised of:
- Registered Nurses with Emergency and Critical Care background
- Critical Care Paramedics
- Registered Nurses with Neonatal and Pediatric background
- Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty Respiratory Therapists
- Paramedics
- Emergency Medic Technicians
- Communications Specialists
