Nursing Residency 101

The Nurse Residency Program was designed to support new graduate nurses in their transition from student to professional nurse. Duke University Hospital, in collaboration with UHC/AACN Nurse Residency Program ™, hosts monthly, three-hour sessions that begin during your first week in nursing orientation, and run for the entire first year of your practice. New nurses at Duke Raleigh Hospital and Duke Regional Hospital participate in similar on-site transitional programs.

New nurses from across the patient care spectrum explore topics in leadership, professional roles, critical thinking, and patient outcomes. Clinical experts and nursing leaders guide discussions and interactive experiences, but most importantly, this is an opportunity for new nurses to share their experiences with other new nurses.
