As a condition for employment, positions for both transfers and newly hired team members at Duke Health will require that applicants undergo a drug screen and placement health review as determined by the requirements of the position.

Who conducts background checks and drug screening for Duke Health?

Duke Health works with a third-party, HireRight, to conduct background checks.

Does my criminal history disqualify me from employment?

No. Criminal history does not automatically disqualify you from further consideration. Each candidate is evaluated individually based on a number of regulatory factors.

Does Duke employ non-U.S. Citizens?

Yes, we employ individuals from abroad, provided they meet our employment requirements and Federal regulations concerning working in the U.S. We encourage you to review these links to determine employment status eligibility for nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Does Duke offer relocation assistance for any of its healthcare positions?

To support the continued growth of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, we offer a relocation program to financially support new Duke University Health System team members who are moving more than 50 miles to accept an employment offer with us. Eligible new team members are provided with assistance using a tier-based structure dependent on their job role. Team members are awarded either a cash allowance (Tier 1) or both a cash allowance and managed budget (Tiers 2, 3, and 4). Team members using the program also get access to a dedicated relocation website that lets them research the area, attractions, services, and neighborhoods.

Those receiving a managed budget allotment – which can be used for approved relocation benefits and services such as short-term housing, auto-shipment, and lease cancellations or deposits – are also connected with a relocation consultant to help them navigate their move.

Career Search Tips

How do I find a career opening for a specific facility?

The easiest way to find openings at a specific Duke Health location is to enter the name of the facility in the keyword section on the search bar.

I found a career listing on a job board, but when I search on the website I get a message that indicates the position is no longer available. How do I find the position?

Our careers site updates our listings several times daily, whereas an external job board updates a listing less frequently. For this reason, you could see one of our careers on a job board that is no longer accepting applications. If you get this message, we encourage you to use the search to type in a similar keyword to explore similar active career openings.

How do I find information about student nursing programs?

Currently enrolled nursing students are able to take advantage of a variety of clinical experience and recruitment opportunities at Duke Health. Nursing students are able to grow their skills and experiences by participating in our 10-week, paid Professional Nursing Assistant (PNA) program. Duke Raleigh Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital and Duke University Hospital participate in this program, bringing together students and preceptors in a unique, one-on-one clinical partnership. To apply for this program, submit your application via the PNA job requisition prior to the annual deadline and obtain North Carolina NAI or NAII registry by the annual May deadline. Questions can be directed to NR_PNA_Program@dm.duke.edu.
